What does iqra’i mean?

The angel Gabriel is said to have appeared to Mohammed and instructed him to read or recite — in Arabic, iqra — three times. Iqra’i is the feminine form, meaning “o woman, read!” or “o woman, recite!”

None of us are Muslim, but we understand the need to speak, write, and read as something akin to a divine command. The pursuit of knowledge reaches out for its due, and truth wants to be spoken in postmodernity just as in antiquity.
