Happiness is a warm puppy.

EDIT: Just to be clear, this is not a video of me. I’m touched by all the comments, but I found the video online and liked it; I’m not a soldier, though I do have two lovely dogs.

This video has made my week. (Title: “My Dogs greeting me after returning from 14 months in Iraq.”)

God Bless U for your time in Iraq and defending our liberties! My nephew, 20 has been over there only 2 weeks. This video did strike emotion with me! It says so much about you and the way you have treated your dogs. For them to remember you after such a long time and to love, hug and kiss you the way they did speaks volumes about their loyalness and your awesome character as a human being. God is Love. Dog is God spelled backwards. The quiessential, unconditional Love is what these animals so obviously feel toward you. Thanks for sharing, it is emptionally uplifting!

  11. 11 Vikki

At times I think god’s greatest invention was the dog. Their love for this american hero transends species. If mankind possesed 1/2 the love of others as do dogs no one would ever have to go to war.

  59. 59 Karen

Wow! Now that the tears have stopped streaming down my cheeks, I can see clearly that the unconditional love that we have for our ‘best friends’ and the human love that’s etched deep within our souls, especially in this GREATEST video, shows the very best WELCOME HOME ever.
Congrats to you, Soldier, first for serving our Country and secondly, for having the two soulmates who welcomed you with open arms and those wonderful ‘hugs’ and kisses! Just loved it when you and the most sincere ‘hugger’ was lifted into your arms. Don’t think even human loyalty and love would ever extend to these limits.
Thanks for sharing this and God Bless all of you.

  60. 60 lisa

Thank you for your service. Welcome Home! How heartwarming to see the pure joy and happiness when your dogs greeted you. I’m sure they missed you as much as you missed them! Enjoy being home and being with your loved ones. You have my respect and I honor you for your servie.

This is a tear jerker, for sure. I have dogs and this kind of a greeting is an atribute to the love that has been bestowed on them.

  67. 67 Sue E

I strive every day to be the kind of person my dogs believe I am. Welcome home, soldier - your service and sacrifice ensures that I’m able to be safe here in the US of A to love my own two dogs. And whether or not you agree with our presence in Iraq, our troops deserve our support. Freedom ISN’T free …

  68. 68 Shawn Catherine

All creatures great and small … The Lord God made them (us) all. It’s getting to be that time of year — Peace on Earth. Good will to EVERY man, woman, child, AND creature. Thanks ever much for sharing … And may we all remember that we can live in either hope or fear. Here’s hoping for a better 2009 (and world) for us all. ~*~Blessings & Protection~*~

  69. 69 patrick

As I sit here with tears in my eyes. Welcome home.. Thank you for your hard work and time away from home and them….

To all those who served anytime, any place, in war, in what passed for peace, the popular ones, the unpopular ones, in dark of night, lonely far from home, bored, scared shitless, and feeling unloved. Seeing horrors that the rest of us can’t imagine. Waking up in the middle of the night for years sweating, crying, and shaking. Please remember there are those who are always thankful that men ( and now women) with guns stood the watch so that we could sleep in peace and safety. I for one won’t forget. I know it is never said enough. Simply Thank you!!!!

The puppies have their boy back… almost everything is right with the world in that moment.

  70. 70 Stuart

What a greeting. And to think some people cannot understand the love a dog can provide. You must have a decent spirit and a lovely heart to be deserving of that homecoming. Well done! Greeting from Australia

  71. 71 Darlene

Eeryone should take a lesson in unconditional LOVE here, if you are a dog lover or not God gave them to us, and our lesson should be how to love unconditionally. Welcome home.

  72. 72 Cathy

God Bless You! Thank you for fighting for my freedom - thank you for allowing me to live free with my 8 dogs and 2 cats. And I thought I got a greeting every night when I got home from work. Ha! I was brought to tears when you picked up your black dog (I thought it’s tail was going to fly off Ha!Ha!Ha!) - they’re both gorgeous and lucky and I’m so happy you’re home with them and hope you never have to leave them again!

This is one I will save. Hugs

  76. 76 Karen

Yep, tears in my eyes, too! And chill bumps up and down my arms! This is SO sweet! Animals are AWESOME!

  77. 77 Sam

As moving as this is (and it is!), I’m not surprised. I’ve had dogs all my 70+ years and everyone of them was as loyal, loving and irreplacable as these. God love them and our troops. We can never thank the troops enough for what they do.

  84. 84 badkitty

I am not a dog fan but that was AWESOME! It brings a smile to my face every time I watch it. Perhaps we could all learn something from our animals. I think they are the closest reminder of GOD’s unconditional love. GOD BLESS OUR TROOPS AND ALL OUR FURRY LOVED ONES.

What a GREAT VIDEO!!!!! I loved seeing the dog jumping up to continuously HUG his best friend. Dogs are just so loyal that it’s unbelievable. Even though when they’ve been mistreated they forgive and they still love you. Many of us can learn from them.
To the soldier: I’m glad you’re back to home your family safe and sound. God Bless You and Those That Fight To Keep Us Safe! You Are All Heroes!

  89. 89 Janet R

Hey, Dog lover or not. How can we tune out the fact we have someone waiting for us. Someone who daily waits for us. Dog. Hey, come home to an empty place. You hear the key enter the lock. You hear the silence of the moment. WHO in their right mind wants to go thru that!! Who wants to fall flat on their face. A dog is the next best thing to a human but not all of us have a human. How wonderful a pet that loves us no matter what!! Duh, how many spouses love us as that. Duh, not too many but that is the difference between human and a loving pet. Pets deliver it all ……………. except …….. you know what but they are here to strictly LOVE us really dumb humans. As we age, we find out that peace is much more important then…….. welll you know. I know!!!
Your hopeless rehopeful . God Bless becauae life is his not ours.
I am weary with what life ,

  110. 110 Peggy

If I could see the keyboard better - tears are streaming down my face - I would be better able to tell you and all of you men and woman guarding our county how very much we appreciate you and how lucky we are to have you. And - of course, I loved the dogs, too.

  111. 111 Carl

I hear you, more important the individual returned home safe, and as I’m not a big dog lover, I think they’re all kinda stupid and would greet most people as friends…but if you want to encourage this kind of sentimentality among animals, go Army!

  112. 112 Chris

    Nice Video

  113. 113 John

    To ALL of you Thanks…

  114. 114 Louie

First off, God bless you and thank you for your service. Although the liberal media wants to give you a negative impression all true Americans are eternally grateful for your service on behalf of our country. Secondly, as an animal lover, this video just reinforces what I’ve known all along that dogs truly are man’s best friend. I was so happy for you and for your dogs at your reunion. Thanks again and Godspeed.

What a wonderful thing……dogs have a way of “knowing” things that even us humans don’t. That’s true love…if only we could express our love and appreciation like them! My son is in the Navy and trust me…that video just tugged at my heart strings!!!

  120. 120 David

Dog’s just don’t forget. The scent is always there to be recognized. It is unfortunate that humans do forget and many don’t care to remember why our troops are over there.

Every soldier I see deserves and gets my thanks and thanks to you, too!

Dogs are the definition of UNCONDITIONAL LOVE. Their humans are the world to them. Make it a great world.

This video has very powerful meaning for me. My son was in Afghanistan for 8 months before, in his words, he “totally lost it”. I have been raising choc labs for all of his life, and while he was over there, I had a litter without his help. I assured him I would keep a pup for him. Now he is in care at Bethesda. When we talk, all he really wants to hear about is his pup.

As a former military dog handler during Vietnam, I can understand the joy a dog can bring to someone…this was special and a moment this person will never forget. Welcome Home and thanks for your service.

  129. 129 Alan

Awesome. Made my day 1st thing in the morning!!
I also laughed when I noticed both of them backing off and barking probably scolding “Where the hell have you been!” Just awesome!!

Who can say that dogs are “dumb” animals after seeing this. They have feelings, memory, emotions and heart. I am a 67 year old U.S. Marine combat veteran and have had dogs all my life. It did not take long watching this video to feel the sting of tears arising and the lummp in the throat building. After such an absence to see this reunion was indeed moving and reminded me of all those “furries” I have had over the years and how little they ask and how much they can give.

Thank you for your servide trooper. And god bless your little friends. And thank you for whomever posted this. It goes to my entire mailing list.

so wonderful to share, THANK YOU to the soldiers and Veterans who protect our country…this brought me to tears and I work with dogs every day at NEADS.org!! We provide service dogs for Veterans, children with autism, people with hearing loss, people with PTSD, ministry dogs, etc…..there is a connection between humans and animals that is deep and meaningful….help NEADS help others maintain a level of independence and mobility - it’s what we love to do! Thank you again for your service, our gratitude to you and your family.

My son is in the Army National Guard and he missed his dog Ace while he was at basic very much. Ace missed him too as he would lay on his bed waiting for him to come home. Neaedless to say they were both happy when he got home. Dogs are great companions. Bless all of you men and women in the service!

  134. 134 Wendi

I kind of feel badly for the person holding the camera! The poor guy can’t even get to him or her for a hug. However, as a dog mommy for 5 pups, there’s nothing better than puppy kisses! Glad he’s back…hope the other soldiers aren’t far behind.

  135. 135 lulu

I loved it, we had Aussies until we had to put him down, but he could
tell when my husband was in the state from a trip gone. He would start to whine and walk back and forth until he walked in the door.
Now we have two Schnauzers and they just hear the garage door going
up and they are barking up a storm.
Welcome home soldier and thank you for all you have done. God Bless You and your buddies.

  136. 136 Linda

Wonderful video !!! Dogs are love, and yes,
they remember their humans, no longer how long
    they have been apart.

  137. 137 Evelyn

This is something that I wish for every military person. To COME HOME alive and greeted with open arms and kisses, no matter if it is human or animal. Dogs never forget. They know who love them and they return that love unconditionally which we all should do. GOD BLESS out Animals and Thank You God for Creating them. Thanks!

  138. 138 aussieaussie

  140. 140 byron

Welcome home Soldier!!! My loyalty/respect to our fighting men and women is pretty much mirrored by the reaction of your K-9 compadres. Not the physical action, but the deep down longing for his/her return from that hell which is Iraq.God Bless America and you as well.We have cleared our “Bushes”, let us get theirs, and get the hell out!!!!

  141. 141 gene wisdon

  143. 143 Kathy

This video reminded me of our Cocker, Maggie, when her beloved eldest child (my eldest daughter) would come home for a visit after being gone a year. She just wouldn’t let up just like those two and yes she would “scold” her, too. They truly do love unconditionally. Thank you so much for sharing this video and bringing back memories and tears of joy.

  144. 144 gloria blackmon

I loved it. it was special.

  145. 145 Dad of 2 Marines

Thank you, sir, for your service to our country. I understand the joy of reuniting with your dogs. One of our sons just returned from Iraq and now the other is there. We’ve experienced the JOY of a safe homecoming. May you and your dogs be under the watchful eye of God.

  146. 146 Eleanor Crichlow

Wecome home and may God hold you and yours and those serving in our military in the palm of His had while your dogs wait at home.

  147. 147 Cheryl Wyant

This video is worth a million words. I too am an animal lover and to see this amazing reunion after such a long time — this clearly shows who you are as a human being. Thank you so much for your dedicated service and thank you to all service men and women who have given so much to allow us the gift of freedom. God Bless you, your family and all serving our country. May they all come home soon, safely and with the same grand love and appreciation!

  148. 148 Guy Gaudet St-Eustache

If only some of our women could greet us this way when we got home lol…….This is unconditional love…. For those who own a dog it makes you appreciate them more and for those who don’t have a dog makes you want to have one NOW…..WOW

  149. 149 Cheryl

And people claim animals don’t have feelings nor do they remember! Oh contraire! This video is to all those who find an excuse for why not to have a dog. Life is just too short to deny yourself or your family the unconditional love they give you day after day.

Being the ‘non-cryer’ in the family, I wept openly both times I watched it!

Thank you for the pictures that words often cannot describe.

  150. 150 Lisa

    Unbelievably heart warming!!!!!
There’s nothing like unconditional love from your pet.
Tears of happiness strolled down my face. Thank you.

  151. 151 Austin

This is truly happiness. What a homecoming. One dog nearly broke a hole in the wall wagging his tail so hard. Absolutely wonderful. I’m still smiling.

    Austin

  152. 152 bob medallion

good video, but my dog greets me like this EVERY day when I come home from work.

  153. 153 Monika Lopez

  154. 154 Michelle Meyer

I know that you have received so many feedback letters, but had to add my voice to the inspiring and loving video. I loved the way your dogs loved you and how you loved them back - it speaks volumes of love, compassion, and sacrifice. Thank you so much!

  155. 155 Tim

Welcome Home!!!! Thank you to all who have served….and continue to do so! I hope and pray for a safe return of all those in harms way, and wish that they all could receive such a welcome….from people as well as their furry loved ones. God Bless and God Speed.

  156. 156 Reno Rambo

Welcome home to a hero. I can’t compare to tail wags and puppy kisses but my heart feels the same as theirs. You’re a good man to have so much love from your kids. You truly received a hero’s welcome.
